Drunken Chicken Killer

I read a news story today about a young man who drunkenly wandered into a shed on a poultry farm and somehow managed to turn off the power to the chicken coops. This act resulted in the death of 70,000 chickens. The chickens were valued at $20,000. Two thoughts occurred to me while reading the story.

1. If only that was all the damage I had ever managed to do in my drinking days.

2. Why wasn’t the shed locked?

Wait–were these chickens on life support or something? Or was it a ventilation issue where they asphyxiated on their own collective juice-gas? I must know.

I guess they had no air. But thanks for the mental image of 70,000 little chicken incubators. The Sheriff or the reporter, i can’t recall which, described the scene as “grisly” in the article, but I’m never convinced people know the meaning of the words/expressions they use. So, I don’t know if they simply expired peacefully or how the met their end, but I’m pretty sure it was due to lack of oxygen.

Probably all could have been avoided with the purchase of a $5 padlock.
