Blogs I Follow… And Why I Follow Them

Here are some of the blogs that I follow… I want to stop using the sidebar because it doesn’t categorize them and because it replaces many of the blogs that I love, the blogs I have been following from the beginning of my blog reading days. These blogs continue to be some of my favorites. So, I’ve decided to go ahead and categorize and summarize (hopefully well) the blogs that I read regularly.

This is a work in progress…. If your blog isn’t listed yet, my apologies.
Happy Reading!

Jacksonian America Mark Cheathem is a Professor of History at Cumberland College in Tennessee. He writes about the early Republic with a special emphasis on Andrew Jackson. He is both entertaining and scholarly, which is difficult to pull off.

Drinking Tips for Teens What can I say about Ross Murray that hasn’t already been said? — mostly by his kids’ teachers AFTER he’s left the conference, but still. He is clever, witty, and, I think, bi-lingual. He’s bipedal, too — at least I think he is — I mean he’s NEVER said anything that would lead me to believe that he needs to run around on all fours! Of course with Ross, one never knows. After you’ve read his stuff I expect a “Thank you, javaj, you are ‘da bomb'” comment — at a minimum. I am considering accepting green stamps (beginning January of 2014) — watch for it!

Todd Pack’s Messy Desk Author, Raconteur, and Southern Gentleman. I hope Todd never cleans up his desk. Equal parts “The Accidental Tourist”, “Mayberry R.F.D.”, and “The Office”. Always well-written. Always funny. I like where Todd Pack’s mind gets to when it gets to wanderin’.

Ned’s Blog: Humor at the Speed of Life Ned Hickson lives somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. I can’t remember where. Washington? Oregon? Somewhere like that. He writes a newspaper column for a paper whose name I can’t remember, pronounce, or ever hope to be able to spell. He discusses everything from lawn care to vasectomies. I love his brand of self-deprecating humor. Underneath it all I suspect Ned is a bit of a “softie”. I like that in a man.

Excitement on the Side Kelly blogs about her kids, her husband, her goals, and her projects, which may sound a lot like what the rest of us blog about, but it isn’t. Her style is remarkable in that it is the perfect mix of candor and humor. No doubt you’ll want to join her for a glass of wine.

King of States! A Jersey Girl who writes about New Jersey with pride and humor. She’s not for the faint of heart, but what Jersey girl ever is?

The Flannel Files She’s a mother. She’s a wife. She’s a lesbian. She’s in therapy. She enjoys sugar and, apparently, flannel. Oh, and, she’s funny.

The Fur Files Truly one of the funniest women on the web. Amanda Fox a.k.a. “Fern DeVilliers” writes about everything and anything that flits through her mind. And what a mind she has!

why am I here in a handbasket Pithy, funny, and often poignant. Hers was the first blog that I connected with on a personal level (and still do). She’s a straight-shooter. I like that in a person.

Simply Stacia Stacia is allowing us to join her on her journey of self-discovery. She’s single again. She’s a Mom. She’s made some (self-proclaimed) bad choices, but she’s learned from them. Now, she’s determined to steer the course of her own future. I revel in her successes, see myself in her failures, and care about her struggles.

The Big Blog Collection Kind of like a “Stumble Upon”, but for WordPress blogs.

Freak of Nature Science can also be entertaining!
